“As I grew up in a small town in upstate New York, I knew what it was like to be part of a community. In medical school I had the opportunity to do nine months of my training in a rural area near the New York/Canadian border. During those nine months I spent time with a husband and wife that were family physicians in the community, doing everything from delivering babies to attending patients in the nursing home. That was when I knew what type of physician I wanted to be.
I then finished my training and settled in Central Maine. As I began practicing medicine and raising my family, I watched medicine change. Unfortunately, it changed in ways that were not always with patient centered care as the focus. Over the past 21 years of being a family physician, I have learned so much, mostly from my patients themselves.
Here at the Big White Barn, I have been part of a different form of practicing medicine, which is to empower patients to know what kind of care they need and how to get it. Technology is an important tool. Balance between work and family is a priority. Partnering with patients to achieve excellent and effective health care is the result. Welcome!”
Note: I no longer take commercial insurance, but for those patients I offer a membership approach, called Direct Primary Care.
